How to read the result
- Dose is the row of that product's leaflet table for the weight (paracetamol suppositories: the age row in whole suppositories, and without an age 1 suppository per dose), rounded to the syringe marks (the graduation given in the leaflet or, where it gives none, the finest step of its table), never above the row. When the amount to measure differs from the leaflet table, the calculator shows both and why (e.g. “leaflet table: 288 mg · same leaflet: 15 mg/kg”).
- Per day is the number of doses and the mg limit of the same table row, which is why it differs between products.
- Interval comes from the product's leaflet and is shown with the result: for paracetamol at least 4 h, and longer after a larger dose in some leaflets; for ibuprofen at least 6 h, and 8 h in some table rows. Which leaflets and from what dose is explained on paracetamol dosing intervals and ibuprofen dosing intervals.
- How long: do not give fever medicines for more than 3 days without a doctor (72 h without a break longer than 36 h); the shorter limits of individual leaflets are on each medicine's page. The Android app warns when treatment goes on longer.
- Age is optional but important: with it the calculator checks each product's age limits, gives no paracetamol dose below the leaflet's "doctor only" age, uses the age table for suppositories and warns when the weight is unusual for the age.

A child whose weight falls between two rows of the table: the lower row (the calculator does the same). The leaflet also gives the dose in mg/kg (at most 15 mg/kg at once). The calculator never exceeds it, so at a lower weight within a row it gives less than the table. “More than 41 kg” starts above 41 kg: a child of exactly 41 kg gets the lower row's dose. Per day: the table row, but never more than 60 mg/kg body weight (leaflet). Volumes are rounded to the syringe marks every 0.25 ml (the graduation given in the leaflet), never above the table row.

The leaflet also gives the dose in mg/kg (at most 15 mg/kg at once). The calculator never exceeds it, so at a lower weight within a row it gives less than the table. Also at the row's own weight (4-5 years (up to 18.5 kg)): the calculator gives 11.5 ml (276 mg) instead of the table's 12 ml (288 mg), because 288 mg is 15.6 mg/kg, above the same leaflet's 15 mg/kg (with an ambiguous leaflet, the more conservative dose). The leaflet's table is an “example schedule” with the column “Age (child's body weight)” and does not say which column decides: with a known age the calculator and the Android app take the lower of the age row and the weight row (the more conservative option). The rows “1 to 2 years” and “2 to 3 years” overlap in the third year, then the lower one. The table ends at 12 years and 45.6 kg: for an older or heavier child the calculator gives no dose of this product. Per day: the table row, but never more than 60 mg/kg body weight (leaflet). In the rows with a smaller 4th dose, 4 times the table's volume is above 60 mg/kg a day at the row's weight (the table rounds the dose up, while the leaflet caps the day at 60 mg/kg), so 3 full doses fit and the 4th must be smaller; the calculator and the Android app do not let the daily limit be crossed. Pedicetamol (100 mg/ml)

The leaflet works with 15 mg/kg (body weight × 0.15 = ml). At the row's own weight the calculator gives the table's volume; at a lower weight it gives a syringe mark that stays within the table's own rounding (up to 15.4 mg/kg), so it may give less than the row. Per day: the table row, but never more than 60 mg/kg body weight (leaflet). What a calculator cannot do
- Check what is on your bottle. Strengths of liquid medicines differ more than fourfold, and the name does not always tell you: Nurofen dla dzieci Junior is 200 mg/5 ml (40 mg/ml), like Forte, without the word Forte in its name. Read how many mg are in 5 ml or in 1 ml on the bottle.
- Remember when the previous dose was and who gave it.
- Know that your child has chickenpox, is vomiting, is dehydrated or has a chronic illness. That is a doctor's job.
